U.S. Postal Service official philatelic cover from Germany

An original postal-history paper object from the collection, catalogued as a philatelic reply-service cover. Brown window cover of the Official Philatelic Service of the U.S. Postal Administration in Germany. Postage is marked as paid at the Schwäbisch Gmünd post office; the front carries blue service emblems and a circular U.S.P.O. Washington 1782–1982 anniversary marking. The catalogue dating is “1982”, the country or postal area is “Federal Republic of Germany”, and the visible franking or postal charge is recorded as “Gebühr bezahlt beim Postamt”. Condition is typical of genuinely transported and opened correspondence: folds, light soiling, edge wear and small opening tears may be present and have not been concealed. Front and back were scanned directly with all visible edges retained, without retouching or artificial restoration. Details that cannot be read securely from the scan are deliberately identified as approximate rather than asserted as certain.
